Why Big Seats and Backrests Don’t Work on Most Bicycles

Smurfs might not understand but human beings instinctively know that a skinny bike seat is a bad idea in relation to their 16” wide (at least) rear end!
Some people think a wide seat that actually fits their butt will work on any bike but the problem is the pedals on most bikes are below the seat so a wide seat would inhibit your down stroke.
Skinny seats work on road bikes because the thin seat barely interferes with your down stroke. Great for pedaling but terrible for comfort!
On a recumbent, the pedals are out front so when you pedal, the wide seat barely interferes with the pedal stroke at all.
People also think a backrest can be added to any bike but the problem is you are leaning forward to reach the handlebars which makes the backrest irrelevant.
We do things differently at Day 6. Our front end is designed to bring the raised handlebars to the rider which allows them to recline into the backrest.
Our 16” seat delivers maximum comfort while allowing you to pedal due to the crank forward design and our front geometry and raised bars allow you to nestle into the backrest for outstanding comfort and support.
